Ctrl+Space: the Expo x
ReactVision hackathon.
For one week in October 2026, developers around the world built AR and VR apps in React Native with ReactVision and Expo. No Unity, no new engine: just one codebase, running on real devices. Here are the six finalists, including our three winners, with a demo video, code and a page of their own for every project.
Winners and finalists
Six projects made the final, from a location-based city game in Rabat to a quantum computing explainer you can walk around. Select a project to watch its demo, see how it was built and read what the judges said.

Amakin: City Game
A location-based AR city game: walk to real monuments in Rabat, cross a portal into a 360° scene and bring it back to life.

Neo Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots
Multiplayer AR robot boxing on your tabletop, with two phones sharing one arena through cloud anchors.

Northbridge Space
Spatial sticky notes for a shared home: pin tasks with an owner and a due time to the real spots where the work happens.

Medimagen
An AR viewer for medical scans: place, scale and crop 3D anatomy, CT and MRI slices and stacked volumes on a table.

Guess the Qubit
Quantum computing you can walk around: an AR Bloch sphere that shows qubit states and gates in 3D.

Football Game
A tabletop AR football game built entirely in ReactVision Studio, with no code.
How Ctrl+Space worked
Ctrl+Space was run by ReactVision and Expo, open to anyone with a laptop and an iPhone or Android phone. Teams of one to four picked a track, built for a week, and submitted a demo video recorded on a real device.
One build week
Build week ran from 3 to 11 October 2026. The top six projects went through to a livestreamed virtual final on 15 October, followed by a Demo Night and awards in San Francisco.
Code track
Teams built with ViroReact and Expo, many of them with an AI coding agent connected to the ViroReact MCP server. One React Native codebase, shipping to iOS, Android, Meta Quest and the web.
No-code track
Builders created AR scenes in ReactVision Studio, our browser-based editor, and tested them on their phones with StudioGo. No code required.
How it was judged
Judges from ReactVision, Expo, Meta and the React Native community scored technical implementation (25%), innovation, real-world impact, design (20% each) and the demo itself (15%).
Ctrl+Space continues with in-person events in London and Bengaluru. Find them, and every other ReactVision event, on our events page.
Build your own AR/VR app
Everything the Ctrl+Space finalists built on is free to start with: ViroReact is open source, the Starter Kit gets an Expo AR app running on your phone in minutes, and a Studio account signs you in to the ViroReact MCP server.
