ViroReact 3.0.0: Five Platforms, One Codebase

ViroReact 3.0.0 is out! With this update we're going from three platforms to five, all from the same codebase. The React Native scenes you have already built can now run on more devices, meeting users where they are.
In this post we're going to run through what's new in this update, but if you want the longer preview from earlier in the month, the September Office Hours recap features a full walkthrough from our team. So, here's what's new.
More platforms, greater depth
visionOS. Your ViroReact scenes can run on Apple Vision Pro. Update to @reactvision/react-viro 3.0+, install the out-of-tree visionOS React Native package (@reactvision/react-native-visionos) alongside react-native, add the visionOS Expo plugin (@reactvision/react-viro/plugins/withViroVisionOS), and use ViroXRSceneNavigator the same way you already do for Quest. Full walkthrough: visionOS setup guide. Headset support is not a rewrite.
Web AR. The same components can run in the browser. Zero install, no app store, just a link. Native still wins when you need peak performance for a production app. Web wins when reach and speed matter more than anything else. Don't worry though: if you ship to web you can still use the same code and ship natively to other platforms too.
A new ReactVision VPS. Cloud Anchors and Geospatial Anchors now sit on our own Visual Positioning System, part of ReactVision Spatial. We have been laying that groundwork for months and 3.0.0 is when we pull the switch, with more VPS work still coming.
Co-location. Shared coordinate frames plus a real-time channel and replicated state, so two or more people in the same room can build genuinely multiplayer AR. Phones, Quest and visionOS are supported within the same device family.
Studio and MCP, shipping with it
Studio Scene Links. Publish a Studio scene and share a URL. Anyone who opens it gets your scene as Web AR in the browser. That is Studio plus ViroReact Web AR doing the boring bit for you. In the scene editor, open publish and turn on Publish to web (or the equivalent Scene Link switch) to get the shareable link.
8th Wall migration. Studio can import existing 8th Wall projects and the MCP server can convert an 8th Wall export into a ViroReact project without leaving your IDE. After import you keep building in Studio, embed with StudioSceneNavigator, or share via Scene Links.
StudioSceneNavigator. Over fifty rendering improvements landed in this update, so Studio scenes render better when you drop them into an app.
Try it at Ctrl+Space
The best way to experience 3.0.0 is to build something with it. We're running Ctrl+Space, an Expo x ReactVision hackathon, with a one-week virtual build from 3 to 11 October 2026. Open globally, any skill level, solo or in a team: ship a real AR/VR app with ViroReact, Studio, or the MCP server. Full brief and signup: Ctrl+Space virtual hackathon.
There will also be in-person regional moments in San Francisco, London, Toronto, and Bengaluru. Details there are still settling, so treat the virtual week as the main entry point for now.
Hope to see you there.
