AR and VR MCP Servers Compared: Which One Should Your Coding Agent Use?

Short answer: an MCP server gives your AI coding agent tools and live knowledge it does not have from training. For AR and VR, the options in 2026 fall into three groups: SDK knowledge servers (SceneView MCP), device and tooling servers (Meta's combined CLI and MCP for Quest development), and engine bridges (community MCP servers for Unity and Blender). The ReactVision MCP server is the one built for an agent to write a cross-platform XR app end to end: live ViroReact APIs, validation, running scenes in a real renderer, render testing in recorded real rooms, and the same app across iPhone, Android, Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, and the web.
What to look for in an XR MCP server
- Current APIs. XR SDKs change fast, and training data is stale. The server should serve live docs, components, and examples.
- Validation. Can the agent check its code against real component APIs before you run it?
- Running and seeing. XR is visual. Can the agent run the scene and see the frames, not just compile it?
- Platform reach. Does the output run on the devices you care about, from one codebase?
- Infrastructure. Anchors, location-based AR, multi-user, and content hosting are where real apps get hard.
The options
| MCP server | What it is for | Platforms | Runs and renders scenes |
|---|---|---|---|
| ReactVision MCP | Build, validate, run, and render-test ViroReact AR, VR, and MR apps; Editor scene conversion; 8th Wall migration; 3D model generation | iOS, Android, Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, web | Yes, including inside recorded real rooms |
| SceneView MCP | API docs, samples, validation, and code generation for the SceneView 3D and AR SDK | Android, iOS, web (per its listing) | Not stated in its listing |
| Meta's Quest developer CLI and MCP | Environment setup, device and emulator control, performance tooling, and documentation search for Quest development (per Meta) | Meta Quest | Device tooling, not a renderer |
| Unity and Blender MCP bridges | Let an agent drive an open editor (create objects, run scripts) | Whatever the engine targets | Through the open editor |
We have not tested the other servers hands-on; descriptions come from their own public listings.
They are not all competitors
These servers do different jobs, and some combine well. Meta's Quest tooling handles device setup and profiling regardless of the framework you build with, so it pairs with ReactVision for Quest work. An engine bridge is the natural choice if your project already lives in Unity.
What the ReactVision MCP server does
Build: live ViroReact APIs, components, docs, and examples; per-device platform support checks; AI 3D model and image generation; two-way conversion between ReactVision Editor scenes and ViroReact TSX; 8th Wall project conversion.
Validate and test: structural checks against the real component APIs; scene execution in a real renderer that returns the frames that appeared on screen, with taps and waits; error and crash diagnosis; performance budget checks for 3D models on target headsets; render testing inside real recorded environments; and image comparison to catch visual regressions.
